Lychees History

Jan Pierre Sonnerat, an Occidental, was the first to give a description of this fruit in 1872. He also gave the lychee fruit, member of the sapindaceae family, its botanical name litchi chinensis.

The first trees were established in Hawaii, Florida, California and South Africa in the 19th century.
